I know copying the same design with different materials seems like a great way to save money but it may actually lead to a very dangerous situation during turnarounds.

What could possibly go wrong?

Turnarounds often involve heat exchanger tube bundle replacements. These tube bundle replacements are often performed by contractors not intimately familiar with each process. Placing the incorrect tube bundle inside a heat exchanger with process conditions the tube bundle was not designed for HAS HAPPENED BEFORE.

Tube bundles constructed with different materials should not fit into each other’s channels.
